Anaerobic digestion was tested on dairy manure substrates to determine the effectiveness of four different pretreatment methods: (a) acid, (b) alkaline, (c) sulfite pretreatment to overcome recalcitrance of lignocellulose (SPORL), and (d) alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP). For each pretreatment method, two chemical dosages were evaluated (termed moderate and severe conditions).
